Eurostar is gearing up for a significant expansion, announcing plans to introduce three new high-speed rail routes, including the first-ever direct services from London to Germany and Switzerland. The rail operator intends to connect London directly with Frankfurt and Geneva, and also establish a new route linking Amsterdam and Brussels to Geneva.
These new services are dependent on the delivery of Eurostar’s new fleet of up to 50 trains, expected to begin operation in the early 2030s. Estimated journey times will be approximately 5 hours for London-Frankfurt and 5 hours 20 minutes for London-Geneva. The Amsterdam-Geneva journey is projected to take 6 hours 20 minutes, while Brussels-Geneva will be a quicker 4 hours 20 minutes.
In the near term, Eurostar is also enhancing services between London, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. Following the reintroduction of direct Amsterdam-London trains in February, a fourth daily service is set to begin on September 9th, with a fifth daily train expected by mid-December.
